An english book review of Slam!

As you already know is the title of the book “Slam”, and it is written by the British author Nick Hornby. Nick Hornby is born 17th April 1957 in Maidenhead. Hornby started writing books in 1983, and has written 7 books since. One of Hornbys known books is “About a Boy”.
The book I am going to tell about is “Slam”. The book was released on October 16th, 2007, and it is Hornbys first novel for young people. “Slam” was recognized by the Young Adult Library Services Association as a 2008 Best Book for Young Adults.

In “Slam” we meet the teenager boy Sam. Sam is interested in skating and girls, and has also got a young mother. She is only 16 years older than Sam.
Sams parents are divorced, and he lives with his mother.
Sams life is pretty good, and when he meets Alicia, it could not seemed to get any better. Sam has really felled in love, and he believes she is the love of his life. Sam and Alicia is together for a while, but as all teenager relationships it ends suddenly.
Sam thinks it is all right but then Alicia calls him a while after they broke up. She says they have to talk, and it is important.
I don’t want to ruin the end or the main point of the book, therefore I am not going to tell any more.

The main characters in this book are Sam, Alicia, and their parents.
Sam is a teenager boy who is living with his mother because of his parents is divorced. Sam is interested in skateboarding and girls, and his big idol is Tony Hawk.
Alicia is a teenager girl which is described as a very beautiful girl. She lives with her parents in this big house. She fell in love with Sam, and they are together for a while.
Annie is Sams young mother. She was only a teenager when she gave birth to Sam. Annie raised Sam all alone because Sams father ran away.
Andrea is Alicias mother. Andrea is happily married to Robert who is also Alicias father. Andrea is a councilor, and thinks Alicia is much better than Sam.
Robert is Alicias father. Robert works as a college professor, and is a wise man.

The author Nick Hornby writes in an interesting and funny way. When I first started on the book I thought it would be really boring, like other books we read at school. But luckily for me I was wrong.
After reading some chapters I could not hung up on it. I wanted to know what happened next, and how the book finally ended.
Nick Hornby is really good at describing the life of a teenage boy. Hornby has also been one once, and he knows how hard it can be. He lets us know what Sam thinks, what he is going to do, and how he’s going to do it.

I don’t think this book would fit for everyone, there are probably someone out there who would have hated this book. This is a shame. I can’t understand why people could hate it, the book is interesting and describes most teenager boys very well.
However, I would recommend “Slam” to young people and parents. By reading the book, they get to know boys better and maybe in a different way than before.

The book is in the library, so go and borrow it now.
Enjoy!
